Peace and quiet – the inconvenient third moment
Hopefully you’ve been following what’s turned out to be a mini series on my quest to regain my creativity and sanity by seeking out quiet moments but if you missed it, catch up using the links.
Yesterday I was not expecting another quiet moment as none of us had plans to leave the flat and it was the last day of the long weekend. I went to bed at the usual time expecting to drift off after a half hour or so and be sound asleep by the time my other half arrived. Instead, my brain wouldn’t shut up. For three hours I lay there, just thinking about all kinds of stuff. At half one I’d started to get annoyed but was dopey enough to get easily distracted too.
That’s when I heard a noise outside. I have no recollection of what it was. Even at the time I couldn’t really identify it but somehow it set off a chain of thoughts that led to an idea so fabulous I had to get out of bed and march upstairs to write it down.
As I climbed the stairs I repeated the idea over in my mind to hold onto it so that even the concerned questions from my other half wouldn’t disrupt my adrenaline fuelled thought pattern.
Now I have a few scribbled words and sentences that represent the start of my third novel. This is big news.
It may seem a little forward of me, after all, I’m still in the process of submitting novel one and I haven’t even begun editing novel two yet. Even so, to have an idea that I think is big enough to turn into another novel is pretty freakin’ awesome! It also proves that my brain hasn’t turned to mush. Even more exciting is that it only took a couple of days to rediscover my creativity.
The start of my third novel wasn’t the only great idea I had over the bank holiday weekend. I also came up with some cool blog topics for this site and the social media cafe. And I feel about a hundred times better and more focused, which is a bonus now I’m back at the office!
I challenge all my readers to give it a go and let me know how you get on!
